Kate Hausbeck Korgan (Graduate College) just completed her term as president of the Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS) and now serves as past-president, which involves serving on the Council of Graduate Schools Board. The primary purpose of WAGS is to facilitate professional networking and provide an arena for accredited institutions offering graduate degrees to address common challenges, identify and cultivate best practices, promote high standards, and encourage excellence.
Korgan, dean of the Graduate College, hosted the 60th annual WAGS conference in Las Vegas at the Palms Casino Resort in March. The conference, "The Next 60 Years: Graduate Education in a Changing Landscape," invited participants to engage in thoughtful discussion of the challenges facing graduate education and consider how evolving educational, scientific, political, economic, cultural, social, and global contexts impact faculty, administration, students, and communities. The conference included a special plenary and reception at UNLV, giving attendees an opportunity to visit our campus.
