Johan Bester (Medicine) recently has had two articles published in The American Journal of Bioethics, one of the most prominent bioethics journals.
The first article, "Children are Not the Property of their Parents: The Need for a Clear Statement of Ethical Obligations and Boundaries," provides comment on current issues in decision-making for children, a topic that is garnering much attention in present-day bioethics. This article makes the point that clinicians' primary fiduciary duty is to their patient, and that this forms the basis of the clinician's ethical obligations to the child. His co-author on this article is pre-eminent pediatric ethicist from Cleveland Clinic, Eric Kodish.
The second, "Vaccination Ethics and Policy," is a book review of a new book on vaccination ethics and policy by Arthur Caplan and Jason Schwartz.
