Jennifer Byrnes and Taylor Flaherty (both Anthropology) along with Antonella Maddalena, published an article titled, "Misgendering a transgender woman using FORDISC 3.1: A case study perspective," in Forensic Science International: Synergy. This case study provides insight into the limitations of forensic methods in identifying transgender and gender diverse individuals. Additionally, they demonstrate there is a need for forensic anthropologists to educate themselves on cases that may involve transgender people. Lastly, they emphasize that the use of a biocultural approach will allow forensic anthropologists to better identify marginalized individuals, including transgender women.
