Jeff Schauer (History) participated in "Remembering Kaunda: His Life and Legacies in Southern Africa and Beyond," a conference hosted by the Southern African Institute for Policy and Research (based in Lusaka, Zambia).
Kenneth Kaunda (1924-2021) was Zambia's president between 1964 and 1991. Schauer's paper, "Arming Zambia for Africa: Kenneth Kaunda, Britain, and Arms Diplomacy, 1963-1973," explored a series of arms deals between the Zambian government and United Kingdom weapons manufacturers that were facilitated by the British government, and their role in shaping a tumultuous period of southern African history.
