Jayce L. Farmer (Public Policy and Leadership) co-authored an article, “Social Media as an Innovative Policy Tool: Lessons and Recommendations from the City of Austin,” in the Journal of Public Management & Social Policy. This article provides an assessment of the city of Austin’s (Texas) use of social media in its community policing efforts. In this assessment, the authors developed a practical model to evaluate the city’s community policing communication policies and practices in light of the best transformational practices of social media utilization. The findings from this assessment provide several lessons and recommendations for practitioners as they attempt to integrate social media within their efforts to coordinate public service delivery.
