Jared Lau (Counselor Education, School Psychology, and Human Services) and colleagues from New Mexico State, Kansas State, and Portland State universities published Use of the MSJCC: A content analysis of ACA journals in the journal Counselor Education and Supervision, the flagship journal of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, an official division of the American Counseling Association (ACA).
In their publication, Lau and colleagues conducted a six-year content analysis of 21 ACA journals to assess the impact and prevalence of the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC; Ratts et al., 2015). Despite the MSJCC being officially endorsed by the ACA since 2015, Lau and colleagues found that of the 2,860 articles published by ACA division journals since its adoption, only about 7.6% of the published work feature the MSJCCs. Implications for counselor educators are discussed.
