Jaewon Lim and Aaron Colletta (both Public Policy and Leadership) recently published an article in the Annals of Regional Science with a co-author, Ayoung Kim of Mississippi State University. In their article, "How Regional Economic Structure Matters in the Era of COVID-19: Resilience Capacity of U.S. States," they analyzed the importance of regional industrial structure to determine the level of vulnerability to unexpected recessionary shock in the COVID-19 pandemic era. Using ordinal logistic regression models, the estimation results identified two significant factors that may determine the regional industrial structures in the COVID-19 induced recession: the relative composition of essential/non-essential sectors and the intensity of face-to-face interactions. Coletta is a Ph.D. student.
