Hyunhwa 'Henna' Lee (Nursing) and her transdisciplinary team, including graduate students Maiko Suarez (Medicine), and Jacob White (Anthropology), published “Exosomal microRNA Differential Expression in Plasma of Young Adults with Chronic Mild Traumatic Brain Injury and Healthy Control” in Biomedicines for the special issue Brain Injury and Neurodegeneration: Molecular, Functional, and Translational Approach. The team successfully identified 25 significantly downregulated plasma exosomal microRNAs for chronic mTBI (n=29), including miR-221-3p, in the association of pathways of neurological disease, organismal injury and abnormalities, which confirms long-lasting neuronal inflammation and relevant persistent post-injury symptoms after the injury (>4.48 years post-injury).
