In a recently published paper in the world's top entrepreneurship journal (Journal of Business Venturing), Hans Rawhouser (Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology) and co-authors draw on the perspectives of social entrepreneurs operating in contexts of persistent and pervasive need in Africa. Rather than concerns about mission drift in balancing attention to social and financial goals, these entrepreneurs express concerns related to a decoupling of pro-social actions and social impact outcomes, which the authors label as "impact drift". The paper details how the concept of impact drift shifts understandings of social business. Hans also presented this paper this summer at top business schools in Morocco, Spain, and France as well as at the annual Academy of Management Conference.
