Gregory D. Moody and Suti Chatterjee (both Management, Entrepreneurship and Technology) wrote an article that has been published in the Journal of Management Information Systems, a premier journal of information systems. The title of the article is An Integrative Theory Addressing Cyberharassment in the Light of Technology-Based Opportunism.
The article focuses on explaining why cyberharassment occurs so that organizations and society are better able to create policies/laws to develop interventions with technology to reduce the amount of cyberharassment performed online. Specifically, the study found that experienced harassers have different motivations to engage in cyberharassment than novices. Regardless, appropriate technical mechanisms that more strongly identify an individual (both the attacker and victim) and increase the perceptions of their individuality will reduce the amount of cyberharassment.
