Gabriela Buccini and Raquel Schincaglia (Social and Behavioral Health) are co-authors of a newly published article, "Single Mothers in Poverty in Brazil: Repercussions on Quality of Life and Anxiety for Pregnant and Postpartum Women" in the Journal of Poverty. . Worldwide, one in eight women between 18 and 60 years old are single mothers. We aimed to identify whether single motherhood in poverty is a risk factor for household food insecurity, anxiety, and poor quality of life and whether extreme poverty modifies this association. Single mothers in extreme poverty had higher odds of having trait anxiety and a lower quality of life in the psychological domain.
