Francis A. Cucinotta (Health Physics and Diagnostic Sciences) wrote "Flying Without a Net: Space Radiation Cancer Risk Predictions without a Gamma-ray Basis," which appeared in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (Impact Factor =5.9). For the first time cancer risk predictions are made independent of human epidemiology data from Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic bomb survivors. Results reveal potential impacts of the qualitative differences between heavy ions and gamma-rays in causing cancer.
