Francis A. Cucinotta (Health Physics and Diagnostic Sciences) published "A Proposed Change to Astronaut Exposures Limits is a Giant Leap Backwards for Radiation Protection" in the journal Life Sciences in Space Research. The paper provides a detailed critique of a National Academy of Sciences report in support of revising astronaut radiation limits, and concludes the recommend changes could have adverse consequences on astronaut health including cognitive detriments, while the current limits present no significant obstacles for space missions planned for the International Space Station or short-term missions to the moon.
