Federick Ngo (Educational Psychology and Higher Education) had an article published in Research in Higher Education. The article, "Fractions in College: How Basic Math Remediation Impacts Community College Students," examines a unique math placement policy where students were placed into remedial math courses based on specific math skill gaps, such as proficiency with fractions, algebraic operations, and solving word problems. The study shows that most students missed higher-level math course placement because of issues with fractions. However, remediation based on fractions scores may have been unwarranted.
