Doris Morgan Rueda (History) presented a paper at the biennial conference of the Society for the History of Childhood and Youth. Her paper, "Delinquency and Duress in the Desert: Juvenile Detention Centers in mid-20th Century Las Vegas," explored the development of juvenile detention institutions in Southern Nevada and its relationship to the desert environment as a way to control and punish youth along racial and gender lines.
