The UNLV Cyber Clinic received a notable mention during a congressional hearing and in an Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD) report.
The White House ONCD published a report outlining the progress they have made and the work to come implementing the National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy (NCWES).
Facing a large workforce gap, the NCWES aims to “broaden the appeal of cyber careers to more Americans, transition to skills-based hiring and talent development approaches, and encourage the development of cyber workforce and education ecosystems.” Key to these efforts are cyber clinics which provide quality hands-on learning for students while serving their local communities. Cyber clinics launched in multiple states, including in Nevada at UNLV, were highlighted in the report, as well as during testimony by Seeyew Mo, assistant national cyber director at the ONCD before the House Homeland Committee hearing on the cyber workforce gap.
In addition to the federally supported Cyber Clinic, the university’s Cybersecurity Center program has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE) and is a recipient of the CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service (SFS) program led by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
