Dean Smith (Nevada Extreme Conditions Laboratory) was awarded an NSF EPSCoR Research Infrastructure Improvement Track-4 fellowship totaling $219,228 over 2024 and 2025. The fellowship will primarily fund frequent travel for Smith and a student to perform experiments in the University of California Berkeley College of Chemistry, where they will develop new methods for studying the electronic properties of materials under extreme pressures using non-linear optics.
