Daniel Wright (Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Higher Education) published "Normrank Correlations for Testing Associations and for Use in Latent Variable Models" describing the normrank correlation. Through several simulations he shows some advantages it has over traditional measures in structural equation models and elsewhere.
