Daniel Cheng, Jennifer Baynosa, Daniel Kirgan, Charles St Hill (Medicine), Chad Cross (Public Health), and Shelley Williams (Dental Medicine) published the paper, "Comparing the effect of distance to treatment facility on reconstruction and breast conservation therapy for early-stage invasive ductal carcinoma between the nation and the mountain region," in the American Journal of Surgery. This study evaluated the effect of distance to a treatment facility, a proxy measure of rurality, on the use of breast conservation therapy and reconstruction for early stage breast cancer. This study highlights the disparity between the Mountain Region compared to the U.S. in the use of reconstructive surgery for this population.
