Courtney Jones (Counselor Education, School Psychology, and Human Services) will be presenting a workshop this month at Sister Song's Let's Talk About Sex! conference in Atlanta. The conference focuses on intersecting topics of reproductive justice, sexual health, resources, healing, and more. The theme this year is "Accountability, Transcendence and Liberation." The title of the workshop is "Sex Work Stigma, Decriminalization, and the Power of Eroticism." Her workshop will look to tear down stigmatized views of sex work and uplift participants in understanding the importance of eroticism and pleasure in our lives.
Jones, an undergraduate majoring in human services, also joined 110 members of the The Oral Contraceptives (OCs) Over-the-Counter (OTC) Working Group in Washington, D.C., for a briefing, lobbying, and annual working group meeting. The OC- OTC Working Group is a coalition of reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations, nonprofit research and advocacy groups, university-based researchers, and prominent clinicians who share a commitment to providing all women of reproductive age easier access to safe, effective, acceptable, and affordable contraceptives. This granted her the opportunity to speak to her representatives and gain knowledge about reproductive justice and community access.
Additionally, as a part of the Advocates for Youth Condom Collective, she will be placing condoms at the Student Union front desk and the front desk of the student diversity and social justice office. This collective of students believes that everyone should have access to free condoms to be in charge of their health and safety. College students in all 50 states are giving out 1 million Trojan brand condoms on their campuses a year to increase access to contraceptives.
