Brittani Sterling (Libraries) is the winner of the UNLV Libraries inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award. She was nominated for the major contributions she has made to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the areas of job performance, scholarship, and service in addition to honors that have been bestowed upon her like being the invited keynote speaker at The 2023 Innovative Library Conference, where she discussed the benefits of creative community engagement that highlights and serves the needs of BIPOC communities. She is the principle investigator of an American Library Association Diversity Research grant team that has focused its presentations and forthcoming publications on the retention, management, and career longevity of mid-career academic librarians of color.
Sterling also works diligently behind the scenes compiling the thoughtfully curated research guides that enhance viewer’s understanding of each episode of the We Need to Talk: Conversations on Racism for A More Resilient Las Vegas series. She has co-written a book chapter chronicling the series' efforts to better serve our student body overall, while acknowledging UNLV's MSI, HSI, AANAPISI designations through innovative applications of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy, which will be highlighted in the forthcoming 2024 ACRL anthology, Creating an Inclusive Library: Approaches for Increasing Engagement and Use with Students of Color.
Lastly, Sterling has made efforts to increase the visibility of minority faculty on campus with her participation in the Council of African American Professionals (CAAP), Black Women's Professional Association, Women's Council, as well as Student Diversity Programs events.
