Brenna Renn (Psychology) published the manuscript "Modernizing Training in Psychotherapy Competencies With Adaptive Learning Systems: Proof of Concept" in the journal Research on Social Work Practice. She worked alongside colleagues from the University of Washington departments of computer science and engineering, social work, and psychiatry and behavioral sciences to develop and test an intelligent tutoring system (ITS) as a classroom adjunct to improve training in common elements of brief behavioral interventions and client engagement. The manuscript details the co-development and pilot outcomes of this computerized learning tool over two years with bachelor-level students in Seattle and rural Washington state.
