Bertille Assoumou (Medicine), Courtney Coughenour (Environmental and Occupational Health), Amruta Godbole (Epidemiology and Biostatistics), and Ian McDonough (Economics) published an article titled, "Senior food insecurity in the USA: a systematic literature review," in the journal Public Health Nutrition.
After examining 20 articles, they found that many correlates of food insecurity in older adults were similar to those of non-senior adults, but that older adults have unique correlates of food insecurity, as well. Findings conclude that food insecurity is a prevalent and pervasive issue for older adults and suggest upstream, systemic-level interventions may be best suited to deal with the correlates of food insecurity.
Godbole is a Master of Public Health student.
