Barbara St. Pierre Schneider (Nursing) received a U.S. Department of Defense Joint Warfighter Medical Research Program grant to continue her research studying the effects of hypobaria (reduced atmospheric pressure) on skeletal muscle inflammation and regeneration after injury and hemorrhagic shock. The collaborative project comprises faculty from the University of Cincinnati Medical College, University of Central Florida, and Case Western University. Findings will help uncover the effects of hypobaria on tissue recovery and will be relevant for wounded soldiers who undergo aeromedical evacuation. The four-year, $5.5 million grant is St. Pierre Schneider’s third from the Department of Defense under Award No. W81XWH-16-1-0150.
