Austin Horng-En Wang (Political Science) published the co-authored article "Influencing Overseas Chinese by Tweets: Text-images as the Key Tactic of Chinese Propaganda" in the Journal of Computational Social Science. The article traced and analyzed thousands of tweets with #USAVirus hashtag and Twitter's decisions to suspend the accounts. The result suggests that the text-image — putting texts into the image instead of the tweet itself — plays an important role in both the tweets and the suspensions.
