Dr. Antonina Capurro (Dental) and Dr. Amy Tongsiri, '08 DMD, joined hundreds of national and international dentists, dental hygienists, health researchers, dental/health educators, legislators, public health officials, Medicaid/CHIP dental program staff/consultants, state/territorial dental directors, and county/city/local dental directors at the 2021 National Oral Health Conference in April. Their presentation was "Nevada Action Network — Providing Preventive Services in a COVID-19 World." The team spoke about the Nevada Action Network that they designed and implemented as a result of the interconnected crisis that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic. The resulting disruption to school-based health services became an opportunity for creative solutions and alternative service delivery methods particularly focused on the Medicaid population. The Nevada Action Network was created to increase value-based care and disparity reversal activities and deliver preventive oral health services that prioritize reaching vulnerable and underserved children where they are through teledentistry dental visits and fluoride varnish home application.
Capurro, '05 BS Chemistry, '11 DMD, '12 Master of Public Health, and '16 MBA, also is an alum.
