Anne Mendenhall (Online Education) was appointed as president-elect of the Design and Development Division of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT). She will serve in that capacity for one year and then will be appointed president of the division. Previously, she served as vice president of communications. AECT is one of the leading professional organizations for educators and those individuals whose professional activities are geared toward improving instruction through best practices and innovative and effective uses of technology. Additionally, she co-authored an article, "The Iterative Design of a Mobile Learning Application to Support Scientific Inquiry" which was published in the Journal of Learning Design. Her co-authors, Paul Marty, Sherry Southerland, Ian Douglas, Victor Sampson, and Michelle Kazmer, are from Florida State University where they are principal investigators on a federal research grant, Habitat Tracker: Learning About Scientific Inquiry Through Digital Journaling in Wildlife Centers, funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education. The research examines how application designers and developers can use an iterative, user-centered design approach when developing mobile learning applications. The article describes the evolution of the Habitat Tracker iPad application and how the application is integrated within a scientific-inquiry and nature of science curriculum for elementary students.
