Ana Gonzalez, Sidath Kapukotuwa, Asma Awan, and Manoj Sharma, (all Social and Behavioral Health) presented a poster tilted, “Effectiveness of tai chi randomized controlled trials on improving BMI among adults with obesity: A systematic review,” at the American Public Health Association 2024 Annual Meeting October 27-30, 2024, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as part of the Integrative, Complementary and Traditional Health Practices session. The review explained that Tai chi offers potential benefits to improve body mass index among adults. To enhance study designs, behavioral theory-based tai chi interventions must be implemented among adults to improve the quality of study designs and evaluate the impact of tai chi in preventing and managing obesity. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to assess the efficacy of tai chi randomized controlled trials among adults with obesity and suggest recommendations for theory-based solid interventions. Gonzalez and Kapukotuwa are Ph.D. students.
