Alona Angosta and Rhigel A. Tan (Nursing) with collaborator, Daniel Heil of Montana State University, and graduate student, Wei Zhu, recently published an article, "The Energy Expenditure of Tinikling: A Culturally Relevant Filipino Dance," in the International Journal of Exercise Science. This article examines the energy cost and metabolic intensity of a culturally based Filipino dance for experienced adult dancers and compared directly to the 3.0 and 6.0 MET thresholds for moderate and vigorous intensities that are used by the United States physical activity guidelines to promote and maintain health.
