The Multicultural Program (MP) for STEM and Health Sciences at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, services more than 800 students in the STEM and health science majors and programs. The primary mission of the MP is to improve the recruitment, retention, and graduation rates of underrepresented minority students in the STEM and health science disciplines. The National Science Foundation defines the following groups to be underrepresented in the fields of engineering and science: African-American, Hispanic American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Native Pacific Islander (Hawaiian, Samoan, Guamanian), and women. Students are provided with essential information, exposure, educational opportunities, and materials geared to enhance their preparation for careers in the STEM and health science fields.
