Description
This course will examine the public health benefits of active transport and physical activity and concepts relevant to the built environment that facilitate or hinder participation in active transport and physical activity. Class topics will include: land use and travel behavior; the built environment and public health; transportation demand management; bicycle and pedestrian planning; design of bicycle and pedestrian facilities; retrofitting existing urban areas; safety issues for pedestrians and bicyclists; the transportation needs of special populations (elderly, children, disabled and immigrants); and innovative solutions. Crosslisted with EOH 655. Credit at the 600-level requires additional work.Prerequisites
PBH 205 and PBH 340
