Description
This course will examine the built environment and its impact on health and discuss sustainable solutions with an emphasis on public health. The US and other nations are facing increasingly lethal and costly epidemics of acute and chronic diseases related to land use and built environment decisions. While the hazards presented by air and water pollution are well recognized there is only now increasing recognition of the hazards presented by building and community designs that fail to recognize human health. Built environment and health issues range from motor vehicle trauma to obesity, cancer, heart disease and are based on economic, financial, insurance, housing and other factors. This class will focus on environmental health, health threats of the built environment and creating healthy built environments.Prerequisites
