UPD Arrests Suspect on UNLV Maryland Parkway Campus (July 11)
Dear University Community,
At approximately 12:50 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, University Police received reports of an adult male with a concealed weapon in the Financial Aid and Cashiering Offices on the southwest part of UNLV’s Maryland Parkway Campus.
Police responded quickly and approached the suspect, who fled from the scene on foot. Officers soon after apprehended the suspect on campus without further incident. The suspect did not brandish the weapon at any time during the incident.
The suspect is in custody and is being booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of possession of a firearm on school grounds, resisting arrest, and trespass.
This was an isolated event and there is no ongoing threat to the UNLV Maryland Parkway campus.
There will be an enhanced visible presence by police in the area of the incident and throughout the UNLV campus. The safety and well-being of every member of our university family continues to be of the utmost importance, and individuals are encouraged to utilize mental health and counseling resources that are available.
