HC Second Year Senate
Overview
The Honors College Second Year Senate aims to co-create high-impact programming for second-year Honors students by implementing a student-centered philosophy and providing student leaders with the opportunity to grow in their skill sets.
Overseen by our Second Year Programs Coordinator, HC Second Year Senate members serve as student leaders who actively communicate with their peers, design and implement social events and career-focused programs, and create a forward-thinking and goal-oriented community. HC Second Year Senate members are dedicated students, enthusiastic collaborators, and visionary leaders who share a passion for enhancing the experiences of Honors College students.
Benefits
You’ll have an opportunity to develop helpful and relevant programming that supports your and your fellow students’ short-term and long-term educational and career goals.
Each member of the Second Year Senate plays a key leadership role. You’ll be able to collaborate with your peers as you hone your professional skill sets.
By joining the Second Year Senate, you become a pivotal member of the larger UNLV and Las Vegas community. To design programming, we’ll reach out to build connections with on- and off-campus partners as well as Honors College alumni.
How It Works
Each fall, the Honors College will select 6-8 highly motivated students to serve as the Second Year Senate during that academic year. By participating in planning sessions and developed programming as well as contributing asynchronously in between meetings, members will collaborate to create high-impact experiences for Honors College second-year students. The experience will culminate in an end-of-year celebration as well as a certificate of completion and a commemorative gift.
