Description
Women Composers in Concert, sponsored by the international music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota, is a recital that showcases a diverse range of musical performances exclusively featuring works by women composers. In celebration of International Women’s Day, this concert pays tribute to the strength, resilience, and creativity of women worldwide, highlighting their invaluable contributions to the field of music.
The program will include several performances that highlight both established faculty and emerging artists. In one performance, faculty members Shawna Pennock on alto saxophone and Jennifer Bellor on piano will present Bellor’s original composition, "Indigo Nocturne." Another performance will feature soprano Isabella Ivy with George Ivy on piano as they perform "Je T'aime" by Isabelle Aboulker. Danielle Aguon, serving as both composer and pianist, will collaborate with violinist Leanna Oliver and cellist Ilinca Cristinoiu in a performance of "Masquerade of Sorrows," a piece composed by Danielle Aguon herself. In addition, Kelly Dugger will perform her composition "In Pieces" on the piano, and she will join saxophonist Dr. Lindsey O'Connor, in a rendition of "Light Of Sothis" by Amy Quate. Violet Jones will also contribute with a piano performance of "Nocturne" by Dobrinka Tabakova. Several other performers and composers will also be featured. All audience members will receive a free commemorative sticker, and the afternoon will conclude with a dessert reception where guests can meet with the performers. This concert not only celebrates the artistry and innovation of women composers but also serves as a vibrant homage to International Women’s Day.
