Description
Sociologist Neil Gong's book Sons, Daughters, and Sidewalk Psychotics examines the disparity in psychiatric treatment for the rich and poor in the U.S., especially in Los Angeles, which has the largest population of unhoused individuals in the country. Public safety-net clinics provide inadequate rehabilitation for psychological distress and addiction, while the wealthy attend luxurious treatment centers. Gong's research calls for a new psychiatric system that meets the needs of all patients, families, and society.
