Guest Mireille Podeur, harpsichord, and UNLV Associate Professor Ambroise Aubrun will perform sonatas for obbligato harpsichord and violin by Johann Sebastian Bach, alternating with teaching, working with UNLV string students.
Mireille Podeur graduated from the CNSMD in Paris in harpsichord performance, music analysis and chamber music. She further studied with Kenneth Gilbert at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and with Mireille Lagacé in Montreal. She holds a doctorate degree (agregée) in musicology from the University of Paris Sorbonne and a CA (French national teaching certificate). She has taught musicology at the University of Rouen, and later taught harpsichord and chamber music at the Nice and Limoges conservatories. She performs in numerous festivals both as a soloist as well as with her two-harpsichords duo along with Orlando Bass. Since 2014, they have together recorded five albums of transcriptions for two harpsichords for the Maguelone label, the next of which is devoted to the Suites for orchestra by J.S. Bach. Passionate about lyrical art, she produces or directs several projects and scenic works with the operas of Rouen and Limoges, the festivals of Ambronnay and Sablé and the Baroque Music Center of Versailles (CBMV). Recent project includes the scenic reenactment of "La Vénitienne" by M. de La Barre, and since 2021, she participates in the “Discoveries” editions devoted to keyboard music in France during the Baroque period for CMBV.
Hailed as a “marvelous violinist” (France Musique) with “sensitive tone” (Pizzicato Magazine) and “tremendous ease, suppleness and beauty of sound” (Nice-Matin), violinist Ambroise Aubrun enjoys a career as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. He has performed extensively and conducted Master Classes around the world. His albums for the Editions Hortus and Navona Records have embraced a wide range of repertoire from J.S. Bach to Tanguy (b. 1968) and received praise of the highest caliber (5 stars Pizzicato Journal, “coup de coeur” France Musique, and a nomination for the 2021 International Classical Music Awards). His performances and albums have been broadcast on CBS, ABC, WFMT Chicago, France Musique, 3MBS Melbourne (Australia), Klara Radio (Belgium), KPFK Los Angeles, WTUL New-Orleans, and K-USC Los Angeles. He has served as guest concertmaster of the Las Vegas Philharmonic, the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico, and is a regular guest of the Los Angeles Philharmonic violin sections.
Aubrun graduated from the Paris National Superior Conservatory, UCLA, (D.M.A.) and the Colburn Conservatory of Music (Artist Diploma). He is the winner of the Charles Oulmont Prize of the Fondation de France and laureate of the Langart Foundation in Switzerland, the recipient of the UNLV Barrick Scholar Award for outstanding achievement in Creative Activities, and the CSUN Faculty Achievement Award. Currently Associate Professor of Violin at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Dr. Aubrun previously taught at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and UC Santa Barbara. He is the artistic director of the Bruman Chamber Music Festival at UCLA.
Aubrun plays a Matteo Goffriller violin, on a generous loan from the Langart Foundation.
