Description
Paula Dione Ingram, Adjunct Voice Instructor and Doctor of Musical Arts student, performs arts songs and spirituals highlighting the art songs of Black American composers and lyricists such as Undine Smith Moore, Florence Beatrice Price and John Wesley Work, III. Additionally, she shares Italian, French and German art songs including three by Richard Georg Strauss. Close to her heart, Miss Ingram has performed spirituals for every recital throughout her career as a homage to her race, heritage and faith. Of the spiritual, Hall Johnson wrote in his compilation Thirty Spirituals: Arranged for Voice and Piano, “True enough, this music was transmitted to us through humble channels, but its source is that of all great art everywhere--the unquenchable, divinely human longing for a perfect realization of life.“ Dr. Spencer Baker accompanies Miss Ingram on piano.
