Opening Celebration

Dean Nancy J. Uscher and ​t​he UNLV College of Fine Arts, the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, and the Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery invite you to an evening of spectacular celebration marking the 60th anniversary of UNLV and the 50th anniversary of the Barrick Museum. Champagne, wine, and hors d’oeuvres will be served.​

​We wish to honor the Las Vegas Arts Community for its dedicated support of the arts and culture in Southern Nevada as the Barrick opens its Fall exhibitions, Preservation and liminal. 

Organized by renowned Los Angeles curator Aurora Tang, Preservation explores themes of survival and renewal in a group exhibition that introduces Las Vegas to numerous artists of international stature including Max Hooper Schneider, Candice Lin, and German sound artist Moritz Fehr. 

A walking tour through the campus grounds brings us to the exhilarating, unplaceable world of Fehr’s Colosseum before we arrive at the Donna Beam where Preservation’s companion show, Peripheral Flood Control Structures of Las Vegas, is on display. Curated by the multifaceted Center For Land Use Interpretation, Flood Control grants us a bird’s-eye view of the extraordinary architecture on the margins of our city. Back at the Barrick, Shelly Volsche’s liminal asks us to question the enigmatic territory between different modes of being with an eclectic installation of artworks drawn from the Museum’s own collection.
