Description
Through the vibrant visuals of paint, pills, and people, Oh Joy! captures the often turbulent relationships of individuals living under the American Healthcare System. The show dates are from Feb. 26 to March 8, with a closing reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on March 8.
Trigger warnings: Medical malpractice, prescription drug use, self harm, suicide.
About the Artist
Romina Villarreal (MFA 2025) is a painter with an emphasis on portraiture. Through this, she explores the life and experiences of stigmatized groups. Her works focus on mental health, sexuality, ethnicity, and spirituality. She takes inspiration from life and individuals she finds in public places. Hailing from San Antonio, Texas, she has worked with multiple cultural outreach programs, mainly those that focus on catering to marginalized communities. Most Notably, Say Sí gallery and student outreach program, where she worked as an art mentor for middle school students. She earned a BFA in painting and a psychology minor from the University of Houston. Currently, she is attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to earn her masters of fine arts.
