Description
UNLV's Minorities and Philosophy (MAP) chapter will meet over cookies and tea to discuss moral and legal debates at the intersection of religious freedom, free-speech, and anti-discrimination law. Two blog-length articles (from The Conversation and The Washington Post) about a 2023 Supreme Court case (303 Creative LLC v. Elenis ), where it was ultimately ruled that a web-designer in Colorado has the First Amendment right to refuse to design wedding websites for gay couples, will be discussed.
MAP discussions and events highlight the work of members of underrepresented groups in philosophy and the particular issues they face both within academic philosophy and in every-day life. These meetings are open to all students at UNLV, and one need not have a background in philosophy to attend.
