Description

Come experience the culmination of works of written by UNLV composer Alec Schantz. From a noir-inspired duet, a post-minimalist ballet, all the way to a romantic-inspired tuba concerto, Alec Schantz will present five representative chamber pieces that they have written during their time at UNLV.

These pieces include the chamber winds premiere of "Hornet" (performed by Olivia Remak, Kevin Vasquez, Alec Schantz, Max Marquis, Megan Kearny, Ernesto Flores, Nick Logan, David Diaz, Savannah Mengistu, Daniel Do, Nolan Kozlovsky, Finn Caoile, Sam Wetzel, Nick Berkey, Elizabeth Lopes, and Ocean Akaka), originally written for the Nevada Ballet Theatre in collaboration with choreographer Matthew Pawlicki-Sinclair. Following Hornet is a four-movement duet for baritone saxophone and bass clarinet titled "Potted Meats and Princely Wines" (performed by Nick Logan and Alec Schantz) inspired by the hilarious names of regional cuisine from Great Britain. Paris Cho and Elizabeth Lopes will then premiere Alec's newest work written for flute, prepared vibraphone, and electronics titled "Lustrous Lambs No More" which is inspired by William Wordsworth's "Ode: Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood." Saxophonists Max Marquis, Megan Kearny, Ernesto Flores, and Nick Logan will then perform Alec's twenty-twenty-four saxophone quartet "Petrichor" which precedes the world premiere of the title work "Me, Myself, and I," a three-movement tuba concerto written for UNLV tubist Nolan Kozlovsky.
