Description
In this workshop, panelists will delve into why pronouns matter, as using a person's chosen name and pronouns is crucial for affirming their identity and showing respect. With the adoption of Senate Bill 109, the state of Nevada has declared that, “It is in the best interests of the State to respect, embrace and understand the full diversity of residents by collecting accurate information to effectively implement and deliver critical services and programs.”
In line with this legislation, students at UNLV are able to update demographic information, including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pronouns via MyUNLV. Panelists will discuss the implications of misgendering and the legal landscape surrounding gender pronoun usage. The discussion will aim to guide students and faculty in creating an environment where everyone's identity is respected.
By participating in this workshop, graduate students and faculty will:
- Enhance understanding of the use of gender pronouns and broader considerations of gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender expression.
- Build awareness of the impacts of gender pronoun legislation on campus.
