Description
This event will help individuals explore opportunities to create space for validation, advice, and strength as they navigate the complex roles of being first-generation students, faculty, and staff.
Navigating new and unfamiliar environments like higher education requires significant time and energy to boost confidence. It's important to acknowledge that even individuals who have progressed and have been successful in their professional careers may face self-doubt due to their backgrounds and their challenges while navigating the world as a professional. This often leads to imposter phenomenon–a feeling of inadequacy despite actual achievements and contributions.
This presentation seeks to create a supportive community where first gen students, faculty and staff can find validation, guidance, and strength. We will review the concept of imposter phenomenon, exploring its root causes, substantial impacts, and practical solutions that individuals can implement to empower themselves, their peers, and students. By building a deeper understanding of this phenomenon, you can develop useful tools to combat self-doubt and enhance your effectiveness as a member of the UNLV community.
