Speaker: Rosanne M. Sugay, MD, Staff Physician - Wellness Clinic (HIV Care), University Medical Center

Objectives:

  • Describe data on HIV and syphilis among women of childbearing age as well as data on congenital syphilis 
  • Explain current Nevada law / recent legislative changes regarding HIV/STI testing for pregnant persons and partners during clinical care
  • Discuss the importance of a status neutral approach when caring for patients
  • Define HIV stigma and understand the effects on individuals, relationships, communities, and society in clinical medicine
  • Apply current guidelines regarding prevention and treatment of perinatal HIV
  • Understand the signs and symptoms of syphilis and apply them to appropriate staging and treatment in patient care
