Description

The Nevada Minority Health & Equity Coalition is hosting a Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) workshop in collaboration with the UNLV School of Public Health and The Center. This workshop will be led by Jason Flatt, PhD, MPH, and Leana Ramirez, PharmD, AAHIVP, CSP!

CBPR is the combination of research and partnership building when assessing a community priority. Partnerships are diverse, often including individuals from specific communities, organizations, academic institutions, and/or coalitions. The CBPR approach strives for shared decision-making and involvement of partners and community members during all phases of the process. This half-day workshop will introduce CBPR, its principles, critical points in partnership development, and aspects to consider throughout the research and partnership processes. We will discuss partnership strategies related to power dynamics, trust, and culture.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand CBPR within the scope of community-engaged research

2. Identify where community participation occurs in the research and evaluation process.

3. Provide strategies for partner engagement and partnership development.
