In co-sponsorship with the Graduate College, Brookings Mountain West was pleased to offer a workshop with Brookings Senior Fellow, Tamara Wittes, Ph.D. Wittes’ research focuses on US strategy and policy in the Middle East, US democracy promotion, and Israeli politics. A graduate of Georgetown University (Ph.D. in Government), Wittes served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs and coordinated US policy on democracy and human rights during the ‘Arab Spring’. In this informative and interactive workshop, Wittes briefly discussed trajectory of democratic movements in the Middle East, experience in working for the federal government and in think-tanks, and how best to prepare for a career in public policy, government, and beyond.
