Description
This weekly proseminar speaker series hosted by the Department of Anthropology invites:
Speaker: Alyson Caine
Description:
A growing realm of paleopathology has considered the social implications of disease, namely the administration of health-related care practices. My research of disease experiences of past peoples has resulted in a collaborative project that considers the role of health-related care practices for peoples of the past but also how methodological approaches, including the Bioarchaeology of Care approach, can be used by non-archaeologists. In my teaching demonstration we will assess the need for health-related care in an individual from a Chilean archaeological context. Drawing on an individual's pathological changes and background, including cultural and mortuary context we will explore the experience of disease and/or impairment and how care for this individual may have influenced their day-to-day life.
