Description

Speaker: Amber E. Osterholt, Ph.D., University of Illinois Center for Clinical and Translational Science

In this third installment of the Fall 2024 Proseminar Series, hosted by the Department of Anthropology,  Osterholt will discuss the process of translation within the context of the scientific knowledge. How translation is the vehicle by which such knowledge travels from bench to bedside into practice, community, and policy.

Osterholt seeks to explain how the field of translation science works to understand the way in which knowledge moves through the various levels of translation, with special concentration on identifying challenges and facilitators in a continued effort to improve the translational process. With COVID-19 working a natural laboratory, anthropologists and other scientists have had the opportunity to explore how the process works in real time, challenging previous ideas about translation as well as offering new interdisciplinary opportunities.
