Time Management and Organization

Please be aware that you are required to be in class one hour per week per credit hour each semester. For example, if you are taking 15 credits, you are required to be in class 15 hours per week. You are responsible for managing the remainder of your time effectively and responsibly. A critical skill needed for success in college is the ability to balance the appropriate amount of time dedicated to academics, work, athletics, and personal time.

Double-Time Work Week

Students taking 15 credits should plan on spending at least an additional 15 hours per week in serious and purposeful study. This should include but not be limited to:

  • Reading textbooks
  • Reviewing notes and handouts
  • Preparing for exams
  • Organizing and mapping out papers and projects
  • Meeting with professors and seeking out other assistance as needed

Involvement in Student Life

Students are strongly encouraged to visit the Student Involvement & Activities website and view the clubs, organizations, and community opportunities available to all students at UNLV. Involvement in positive and meaningful activities enhances your college experience, establishes networks, friendships, and connections and increases your opportunities for success.

Employment

Opportunities are available for both on-campus and off-campus employment during the school year and, in some cases, summer. You are encouraged to visit Career Services to explore these opportunities.

Housing & Residential Life

If you live on campus and need specific accommodations (i.e., single room, accessible room, restroom, etc.) in the residence halls, contact The Office of Housing and Residential Life to discuss those specific needs as soon as possible. Accommodations will be made whenever possible; however, there is no guarantee that the university will be able to meet every accommodation request since existing facilities may not support the accommodation.
